Leon Cox, 82, was born November 2, 1927 in Centreville, Mississippi to Sam Cox and Luvenia Cason. His parents, one brother Linell Argue and two sisters, Catherine and Josephine preceded him in death.
Leon was educated in the public schools of Centreville. He was united in marriage to Clara Lee White, who also preceded him in death. He became a Christian at an early age, and was a founding member of Redemption Church Of God In Christ. He was an ordained Deacon, and proudly served on its Board. Deacon Cox faithfully visited the sick and shut-in: providing support and encouragement. He was an example to men young and old. He was employed by General Services Administration as a manager until retirement.
Unique is a word that is used constantly and to a degree, applied to almost every idea, concept and individual. But in Deacon Cox’s case, it is the only word that can be used to sum up the range of his personality. These traits of wisdom, frugality, poise, humanity and a diligence toward God, were shared with others around him. He learned to do almost everything and shared it with others, He was very proud of his service to President Harry S. Truman and his military duty in the Army. He loved the great outdoors. He could grow practically anything, a gift that few have. His culinary skills were matched by no other.
Deacon Cox loved learning, reading, hunting, fishing, and sharing with others. He also was a grandfather that loved his grandchildren and his children.
Leon departed this life on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Research Medical Center. His absence in this world will leave a void that will be difficult, if not impossible to fill.
